This year’s free agent market appears to be moving much quicker than those of the past two years. We will know for sure if the stars of the group (Strasburg, Cole and Rendon) sign before Christmas. A suspicious mind might wonder if the faster pace is due to the heat that MLB teams have been facing from the sports press over the process. A new labor contract is still a couple of years (notice how I added the “of”? the preposition is NOT optional people!) away, but it sure looks like dark clouds ahead. The strike of 1981 ruined me permanently. I still like baseball, but I don’t live and die with my team anymore. I actually don’t have a team anymore. I usually just root for the underdog.

If you want to read an awesome book about baseball, get a copy of “The Glory of Their Times” by Lawrence Ritter. A little hard to find, but it will remind you why baseball is so great. Red Barber called it “the single best baseball book of all time” and he was not wrong.
Today’s classic rock song is “Evil Woman” by ELO.
