Today I want to vent about MLB’s replay. The sports media pushed long and hard for this. And as soon as it was implemented, they moaned long and hard about its faults. The simple answer to that is that replay was NOT needed and should never have come to pass. I very rarely heard any fans wanting instant replay, but I have sure heard fans complaining about it!
I am all in favor of speeding up the game. I also salute MLB’s commissioner Rob Manfred in his efforts to attract a new generation of fans. But the human interaction is a strength of baseball. I see ESPN pushing for non-human ball and strike counters and I hate the thoughts of that. Complaining about the umpires makes the game better not worse. If you want perfect officiating watch an Esports broadcast on ESPN (can you believe that Esports is on a sports network?).
