No Sports

Well, it has been quite a week.  Here in North America we had baseball, NBA basketball, golf, March Madness, NASCAR and Indycar all shut down indefinitely.  Our lives are now sadly lacking the main sources of entertainment.  Yes, we could read a book or binge watch Netflix, but we can’t bet on those activities (can we?).  And with no March Madness, the billions of dollars (I looked it up) bet on the tournament will have to go to food and rent.  No brackets to put together, no endless TV coverage of the action.

I am also sorry to see my fantasy baseball team will not get started for at least a few weeks.  I thought I had an amazing team that had a chance to win it all.

NASCAR looked like they would fare well by holding their events without spectators, but they folded to the pressure and cancelled the next two Cup races.  I actually would have watched the races because well, what else was there?

Don’t misunderstand.  I am all in favor of shutting down all group gatherings.  The coronavirus (Why does China not like us calling it that?  Would they prefer Wuhan virus?) is scary and large groups just speed its spread.  Young people are supposedly not at danger, but the old and the unwell surely are.  Just wait a few weeks and see how lost we are with nothing to watch on TV while we drink our adult beverages.  Just sit at home and worry about your investment portfolio.  Nothing to bet on, nothing to argue about with buddies.

Today’s classic rock song is “Whipping Post” by Allman Brothers.
