Since there is no action in the sports world yet (unless you count the UFC fight tonight), I want to write a little about travel, why it is so important and when it might return.
When I started working, one of my life goals was to get out and see as much of this world as I could. I traveled across Canada (every province except Newfoundland) and the US (every state except Alaska) and I learned that people are pretty much the same. A few are great, a few are awful, but most are just good people trying to make their way through life. I learned what NOT to talk about when meeting new people (politics and religion top my list).
Some of my favorite North American travel memories were:
1. First visit to Toronto
2. First visit to LA
3. Crossing the US border into Mexico
4. Attending Major League Baseball games
5. Spending several spring breaks in Florida
6. San Diego Zoo
7. Driving to New Orleans for the 1984 World’s Fair
8. Yellowstone Park
9. Arizona Desert
10. Las Vegas
Over the next little while I will be blogging about each of those highlights.

Now on to the bigger question – why is travel important? Travel lets us see that no matter how different we think people in other areas of our country or other countries are, we are more the same than we are different. Travel hopefully makes us think more globally and less locally, enabling us to see the big picture. And travel shows us sites in person that TV and Internet can not accurately convey (eg Yellowstone Park). Travel every chance you get! The only trips I have regretted are the ones I have NOT taken!
