Baseball in the Toilet once Again!

I hope everyone is well and has survived COVID ok.  Here in Nova Scotia Canada all restrictions will be dropped on March 21st.  I plan on burning all my masks on the 22nd!

In the baseball world the lockout drags on and MLB is claiming there needs to be an agreement by February 28th to be able to play a full season.  It looks like 1994 all over again.  Difference this time is there seems to be very little sympathy for either side.  Baseball has priced the ordinary fan out of the stadiums and the TV games are so slow they are basically unwatchable. “Three true outcomes” baseball is a real abomination.  Billionaires vs millionaires.  As the noted baseball pundit W. Shakespeare said “A plague on both their houses.”

I was sorry to see that so far there is no talk of improving the game other than the implementation of the universal DH.  No restrictions on defensive shifts.  No pace of game improvements.  No limits on the endless parade of pitchers.  I was really hoping for some improvements in the game (but NOT the robo-ump!).

Those of us who live in the Snow Belt really look forward to the start of spring training because it is an early sign that winter is ALMOST over!  I should add that baseball labor disputes have a way of ending very abruptly (see April 1995),  so there is always some small hope.  Fingers crossed it is sooner rather than later!

Today’s classic rock song is “Kickstart my Heart” by Motley Crue.
