Astros are Cheaters? So What?

Well, the media hounds are howling about the Houston Astros stealing signs.  Why is this news?  The New York Giants used a buzzer system in the 1950’s to steal signs at the Polo Grounds.  IT IS PART OF THE GAME!!  Does  anyone really think that the other teams are not doing the same things?  I predict that other MLB teams will also get caught.  And what if they are?  If teams are so lazy they won’t switch their signs, they deserve it.  Back when players made very little and cared very much, there wasn’t the sense of entitlement that modern players have.  If somebody broke the rules, they either got caught and got a slap on the wrist or baseball moved on.  That’s what needs to happen now.  Let ESPN get back to crying about the problems with replays, or the lack of ball and strike calling perfection by umpires.  There seems to be an awful lot of complaining about officiating in several sports (notably the NFL).  Again, look at your sports history.  Fans have cursed umpires and referees since sports began.  The human factor makes sports better, not worse.

  1. There was an article in last week’s USA Today Sports Weekly about the Astros. It broadly hinted that other teams might also be breaking the rules. Thank you! It went on to call for crucifixion of any guilty parties (ok, not quite). Give it up sports media! Report the news, don’t try to make it!
